Kira Moraca was crowned Miss Destin 2014 on Saturday night following a month of events and a pageant of dancing, question answering and poised competition.
“I’m really excited about being Miss Destin. Actually I’m really excited for October and taking pictures with all the fish and being with all the people,” Moraca said.
As Miss Destin, Moraca will be the face of the month-long Destin Fishing Rodeo in October, posing with each fish caught, and she will also participate in other city events throughout the year.
Moraca is the daughter of Reid and Linda Phillips.
The 16-year-old collegiate high school student was awarded a $5,000 scholarship to be applied to her college of choice this fall and she hopes to pursue Zoology at the University of Florida.
“I hope to continue being a positive influence on kids and continue to build my communication skills and self esteem,” she said.
