Fancy a daiquiri while petting your pooch and watching the sunset? This Saturday, Fishheads on the harbor is hosting, “Dog’s Night Out,” a fundraiser for the Destin dog park.
Owner Melissa Aiken told The Log that this is the second fundraising event that they have held for the canine playground since opening their cold drink kiosk last July.
“I’m excited, we’re hoping to generate more funds for the dog park,” she said.
The previous event, held in November, raised $150, and Aiken said that after the flooding that occurred in the dog park last week, she is glad to help in any way.
“Our intent is that the money goes towards lights at night, but I understand the dog park is in trouble right now,” she said.
Her own pooch, Bes, is the un-official mascot for the business, and frequents the boardwalk often.
“My dog Bes really took to this place when it opened,” Aiken said. “She loves to play frisbee with the bulls-eye, and socialize with kids and families walking by.”
The Dog’s Night Out evening events are open to both humans and their canine counterparts, and will include live music from local musician Al Alvarado, photo opportunities from HD Action Photography, and a prize-packed raffle drawing.
“We have a nice little gathering spot right here at the docks,” said Aiken. “We just wanted to pick up a cause and try to give back and have a good time.”

Dog’s Night Out will be held at Fishheads, 98b Harbor Blvd., on May 10, from 6-8 p.m.
