Destin Water Users announces the appointment of Lockwood Wernet as general manager, following the recent retirement of Richard Griswold.

Wernet has worked with Destin Water Users since 2000, when he joined the board of directors. Throughout the years, Wernet served in several positions including vice president, secretary/treasurer and chair of strategic planning committee before being hired as assistant general manager in 2010.

Wernet was previously employed with Newton Oldacre McDonald as director of property management, overseeing all property management and property insurance operations for the real estate development and management company. A graduate of Indiana University and University of West Florida with a B.S. and MPA in public administration, Wernet has also been employed by the city of Fort Walton as a planner and human resources director, as well as the city of Destin as a planner, community development director and assistant city manager.

Tom Weidenhamer, president of Destin Water Users’ board of directors comments on Wernet’s appointment, “We did our due diligence and followed our policies to select the best candidate to be the next general manager of DWU. Lockwood has been intimately involved in leading DWU since 2000 having served on the board of directors and then as assistant general manager since 2010. He led the company during the hiring process and in the end he was our choice for general manager.”

Wernet officially assumed the position of general manager on April 30, 2014.

“I am excited and honored to have been appointed to the position,” says Wernet. “I look forward to serving the community and finding new ways to continually improve our services.”
