The third sea memorial is now in place at the Destin Memorial Cemetery on Stahlman Avenue. Earlier this year, Capt. Mike Eller, left, of the Destin Charter Boat Association along with Sheri Teems, at right, went before the Destin City Council to ask for permission to put up another monument. The monument, the third of its kind, cost $6,000. The DCBA and the Destin Fisherman's Coop pooled their money to have it put in place. The first one was erected in 1992 and the second in 1996. The monuments hold the names of locals lost or buried at sea. The new monument which was installed last week already had 36 names engraved on it, but has room for about 60 more.
