The transformation from a dilapidated building to the new Harbor Village Townhomes is well on its way, as a complete renovation is expected to wrap up by mid-August.
"We are hoping to have the retail spaces ready no later than next weekend, but hopefully it's this weekend," said Ashlie Gleaton, property manager for Redmont Properties. "The townhomes should be ready by the second weekend of August."
Birmingham, Ala.-based JME Building and Development LLC is the muscle behind the renovation work that is breathing new life into a property which boasts a mix of retail and residential units.
Harbor Village Townhomes features ceramic tile flooring, granite countertops, custom kitchens with stainless steel appliances, and large closets. The master bedrooms feature sliding glass doors that open to a private balcony.
The residential units are two bedroom and 2.5 bath, pet friendly and can be rented for $1,505 a month, which includes the base rent of $1,425 and an $80 water, sewer and trash fee.
As for the retail spaces, Gleaton told The Log that they range from 659-square-feet to 690-square-feet. The two end units on each side of the building are combined to create much larger storefronts that total 1,336-square-feet, and rent for $1,900 monthly.
With an anticipated grand opening in the next few months, Harbor Village Townhomes already has one retail tenant on the books and plenty of other interested parties.
"I've had a lot of people who are waiting for the retail units to be completed before they make a decision," she said. "There are already a lot of people on a waiting list right now."
Deep South Sno Treats is proudly displaying its "coming soon" sign in front of the building, which is conveniently located in the heart of Destin between the Fishing Fleet Marina and the Red Door Saloon. Addresses on the building range from 220 Harbor Boulevard to 236 Harbor Boulevard.
Jack Moore, along with his wife Lori, are the owners of Deep South Sno Treats. Jack told The Log he is looking forward to the growth along the harbor, especially now that the city has completed the Marler Street parking lot, which sits directly across the street from his future storefront.
"I've noticed over the last few years that there is a lot of revitalization going on in this end of town," Jack said. "I think there is going to be a lot more foot traffic."
Jack told The Log he expects to be able to get into his store in the next few weeks to begin interior work.
"One of the hardest parts right now is waiting," he said. "All in all, it's really exciting."
Once construction wraps up and inspections are complete, Gleaton says Harbor Village Townhomes will hold a grand opening celebration.
"It's been a lot of work," she said.
