The Destin Log’s Facebook page has been looking a lot like the wild kingdom lately. It began with Destin’s Chris Lambert, who shared this photo of a “little fella” he spotted at Ed Walline Beach Park on 30A at SR393. Then Billy Center’s photo of a close encounter with a shark at SunDestin went viral. Center, a Nashville resident, reported Tuesday that paddle boarders “chased off” the 5-foot hammerhead shark. On Thursday, Destin’s Breck Ardery warned folks that this coyote has been on the prowl in Indian Bayou. While coyotes have been known to attack pets and livestock, and sharks have been known to snap the tails off anglers’ catches, experts say both are relatively harmless to humans.

Shark sightings especially are not uncommon and likely will continue through the spring and summer. Coyotes have also been a relatively common occurrence in the Destin area with residents reporting sightings along Benning Drive, Sibert, Forest and Mattie Kelly Boulevard. Residents from Twin Lakes, Emerald Lakes and even Sandestin have also spotted the wild dogs on the horizon.
