A Destin man wasn’t going to just stand by and watch three people steal
his neighbor’s $15,000 boat propeller.
When he spotted a trio of men enter a property at 107 Durango Road
Tuesday and load the prop into a car with an Oklahoma tag, he followed
them while calling his neighbor to ensure no one was supposed to be taking
it away.
Once he verified it was being stolen, he called the Okaloosa County
Sheriff’s Office and followed the suspects’ car until a Deputy arrived to
make a traffic stop.
The deputy found the prop in the rear compartment and learned they
were planning to take it to sell as scrap metal for cash.
36-year old Scott Tubb, (address unknown), 17-year old Colton Brewer
of Santa Rosa Beach, and 36-year old Nicholas Harris of Destin are all
charged with burglary and grand theft.
“This is a perfect example of a citizen looking out for his neighbors and
his community, and being willing to take the time to be extra eyes and ears
for law enforcement,” said Sheriff Larry Ashley. “I want to applaud him for
doing the right thing by not trying to engage the suspects but instead
immediately relaying the information so a trained officer was able to then
make the traffic stop and the arrests.”
