It’s time to pull out those Christmas lists and hit the town, and this year there is an incentive for shopping small-town with local Destin businesses. The Destin Area Chamber of Commerce is generating an event called Small Business Saturday, November 29 with $25 gift cards to chamber members who spend $25 or more with another chamber member.
“We have partnered with American Express like we always do,” said Shane Moody. “As part of Small Business Saturday, any chamber member that comes by our office with a $25 receipt will get a $25 gift card back.”
Moody told The Log that Destin was built on local businesses, and that this promotion allows the small businesses to continue to grow and thrive each year.
“It’s a promotion to put a positive spin on the businesses in this area,” Moody said. “We are very small-business driven, so for us it is natural to promote our local businesses; that is our role in Destin’s economic and community development.”
The chamber began this incentive program in October and has already given out 18 American Express gift cards.
“This has really helped us pump up the local economy,” said Moody. “By the time this is over we will have generated about $4000 for our local business, and given out $450 that will regenerate back into our community.”
Moody detailed that the promotion will continue until every gift card has been redeemed and all Destin area chamber members are encouraged to participate. Visit www.destinchamber.com for the small business directory.
