Dr. Yvette Novak got a bit teary-eyed when thinking of her friend and former patient Barbara Morton, who recently passed away. Novak told The Log that during her years spent with Morton she never knew that her patient was a gifted artist.
“Our patients are like family, and Barbara Morton was a longtime patient of mine,” said Novak. “But she never told me she could paint, and her artwork is unbelievable.”
Novak said that she received a call from Morton’s husband, Alfred, a few months ago with the invitation to choose a painting from his wife’s collection to be donated to the office.
“I went to see the paintings and there were so many I couldn’t choose,” Novak said. “Then a few days later he called me back and said, ‘I was thinking about it. You liked all of these pictures so I brought them all to you.’”
Today about a dozen paintings depicting the mountainous landscape of New Mexico hang in the halls of Novak’s office.
“I was amazed at the colors and shapes she was capturing in the mountains,” said Novak. “I would like to dedicate this to Mr. Morton. I want to wish him a Merry Christmas and thank him for allowing us and our customers to enjoy these paintings; It stops time for us.”
