Concert in the Village
The Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation's Concert in the Village with David Seering, scheduled for July 3, has been canceled due to weather conditions.
It will be held at 7 p.m. July 11. Seering will take to the stage to perform an evening of spectacular patriotic favorites honoring the military men and women who serve our country. His concert will also feature the spirit of Americana music from a variety of composers and musicians from Frank Sinatra to Billy Idol.
Destin Bike Parade
Because of bad weather, the city's Annual Independence Day Celebration & Bike Parade/fireworks show scheduled for tonight (Wednesday, July 3) at Morgan Sports Center is canceled. No rain date has been scheduled at this time.
Destin Fireworks should go on
The City’s annual Independence Day fireworks show will be launched over East Pass at 9:00 p.m. July 4 unless there is an eminent public safety concern such as lightning in the immediate area.
Rain will not prevent the show as waterproofing precautions have been taken by the contractor to protect all pyrotechnics mortars. As previously stated, postponement will only occur if there is a public safety concern; otherwise the show will go on as scheduled. Tune in to Z96 for updates or visit the city's website, www.cityofdestin.com. Alternate date/time is July 5 at 8:30 pm.
Walton and Bay County Fourth of July
Due to the weather, the annual Seaside Fourth of July parade has been canceled, according to organizers.
Lynn Haven has cancelled all 4th of July events.
Rosemary Beach has cancelled all events but fireworks. The fireworks are scheduled for 8:45pm.
The POPS concert at Aaron Bessant Park tomorrow has been cancelled. The fireworks will now be from the City Pier at Pier Park only and have been moved to Friday and Saturday nights. The fireworks are scheduled for 9:00pm.
RAINFALL EQUALS PHONE CALLS at Destin Docks
With a 100 percent chance of rainfall expected on the Fourth of July, the phones at some of the area booking booths for charter fishing trips were ringing off the hook Wednesday morning.
"We've been canceling and rescheduling all morning," said Frances Montalvo of the HarborWalk booking booth for charter fishing trips.
Although a handful of charter boats ventured out Wednesday amidst the rain, Montalvo said they have had to cancel and reschedule about 100 people. Wednesdays have generally been a good day on the docks, with HarborWalk booking about 180 people on fishing trips the last two Wednesdays.
As for Destin Fishing Charters at Fishing Fleet Marina, several of morning trips went out Wednesday, but all afternoon trips were cancelled. And the word for Thursday, the Fourth of July, was "on hold."
