A series of wrecks on Airport Road kept firefighters busy Wednesday afternoon.

The first wreck occurred around 4 p.m. on the curve next to the airport, when the driver of an SUV drove through the perimeter fence.

Destin Fire Control Battalion Chief Bronson Coleman said the driver was taken to the hospital, but did not appear to have serious injuries.

At about 6:15 that evening, there was a two-vehicle accident on that same stretch of road. Bronson said a Toyota truck rolled over in the median during that accident. The truck driver, as well as the driver of the SUV that hit the truck, were both taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Bronson said there are frequent accidents along that stretch of road.

"It was definitely wet," he said of conditions Wednesday afternoon.
