With phase one of the Indian Bayou drainage pipe replacement project completed, city leaders are ready to move on to phase two.

Phase two of the  $125,000 project will see the replacement approximately 424 feet of 18-inch corrugated metal pipe, which will be swapped out for an 18-inch high-density polyethylene pipe. Underground Inc. will compete phase two for $55,615.55.

As part of the construction, which is expected to begin March 2, a small portion of the Indian Bayou Golf Course will see a temporary closure.

Golfers will still be able to play on 18 of the courses 27 holes. Nine holes will be closed for a maximum of 5 days to accommodate repairs.

Phase one of the project saw the replacement of 337 feet of storm pipe. All told, 1,324 linear feet of pipe will be replaced.

Stormwater runoff from the first 1,800 feet of Country Club Drive East, including lots on both sides of the street, is drained through the corrugated metal pipe that runs across the golf course.

The first phase of the Indian Bayou Subdivision was constructed in 1979, before the city was incorporated. Given the severe deterioration of the pipe, replacement was a must.

Work is expected to last about a week, Public Information Manager Doug Rainer told The Log.
