UPDATE:

The "suspicious" item which caused police, fire and EOD crews to converge at Gulf Terrace earlier today turned out to be a plaque, according to officials from the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

The plaque was designed for a former EOD specialist and it looked like an explosive device of some sort and was inert, officials reported.

Michele Nicholson from the OCSO told The Log the scene has been cleared.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Officials from the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office and the Destin Fire Control District responded to a call regarding a 'suspicious' item spotted at Gulf Terrace Condominiums along U.S. Hwy. 98 and Airport Road, spokeswoman Michele Nicholson told The Log.

Nicholson said portions of the complex were evacuated as a safety percaution.

Chief Kevin Sasser from the DFCD said his crews intially responded, but were back at the station. He said EOD crews from Bay County were on scene and conducting an investigation.

More details will be released as they become available.
