The vision has now become the reality, as the proposed 1900 Ninety Eight condominium project has broken ground.
“It’s been a long road, but its been fun,” said Walt Chancey of Chancey Design Partnership.
Local Realtors, business leaders and dignitaries gathered at the site of the proposed 12-story development for the official ground breaking ceremony Thursday morning as the Florida sun shined overhead.
The Gulf-front project, designed by Chancey Design Partnership, will be located east of the Back Porch Restaurant and Signature Beach along Scenic Hwy. 98. The building will feature 14 single-story residences, wide balconies and two, two story penthouses.
Chris Abbott of Scenic Sotheby’s International Realty, who is the listed agent for the project, told the crowd that 10 of the 16 units at 1900 Ninety Eight are currently under contract.
The single-story residences have three bedrooms and three bathrooms and range in size from 2,603 square feet to 2,627 square feet.
The two two-story penthouses offer four bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms and range in size from 4,496 square feet to 4,556 square feet.
The condo project will feature a rooftop pool, hot tub, fire pit and state-of-the-art fitness center, according to promotional materials. There is also 156 foot of private beach, two levels of under building parking, and gated entry.
“This is a great day for Destin,” Mayor Mel Ponder said during the ceremony.
Edgewater Contractors are the builders behind the project. Construction will take approximately 12-14 months.
“The crane will go up soon and the excitement will begin,” Abbott said.
