It appears as though new life may be on the way to the old Club Overboard/Twisted Palm building at 14051 Emerald Coast Parkway.
A recently placed sign on the property reads “coming soon — new retail development.” According to the Okaloosa County Property Appraiser’s website, the 2.36-acre parcel of land changed hands from GE Destin, LLC to Sharktooth Partners, LLC in April for $2,250,000.
Sharktooth Partners has a principal address in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and lists Leonard Silk and Andrew Stewart as managers, according to records from the Florida Department of State’s Division of Corporations.
Silk and Stewart are the founders of the Silk and Stewart Development Group, which develops, leases and manages commercial properties, according to the company website.
The sign also lists the website, www.theshoppingcentergroup.com, which is an Atlanta, Ga.,-based company founded in 1984. The company offers a variety of services, such as property management, tenant representation, investment sales and construction supervision, according to its website.
Aaron Soloman from The Shopping Center Group told The Log the existing building would be demolished to make way for a new project, which is slated to be called Sharktooth Commons.
“We are working with some retailers now,” he said.
The building has sat vacant since Club Overboard/Twisted Palm closed in 2010, although there has been interest in the property since then.
In 2012, Damon Becnel had planned to open a project called “Family Hunt Club” on the property, which was slated to be “multi-function entertainment complex.” The concept eventually fell through.
In 2013, the property was once again under contract. This time it was by local restaurateur A.J. Tusa, who had plans to “do something real nice with it.” The project never came to fruition.
Prior to the Club Overboard/Twisted Palm concept, the building was the PunchLine Comedy Club, LaRocco’s Italian restaurant and bocce bar, and Nigel Manley’s World Grill and Microbrewery.
A message left for Silk and Stewart was not returned by press time.
As of Wednesday, county planners told The Log there were no development applications on file for the property.
