Destin Elementary School is making a steal by way of donated art this year. In addition to the new mural being painted on the side of the school, another local artist, Andy Saczynski, recently donated a piece of mixed media art to be hung on the inside of the establishment.

Saczynski said his motivation behind donating the art piece was purely to show his appreciation to the teachers and staff at DES for their role in his children’s lives.

“Three of our kids have attended DES, with one more starting there in 2016,” said Saczynski, “so I wanted the school to have a piece of my art.”

The piece was completely formed out of recycled materials such as dock wood and pieces of his children’s old play fort, and displays three swimming dolphins bursting out of a wooden frame.

“The Destin Elementary School mascot is a dolphin, so why not give them a piece of my dolphin art,” Saczynski said when asked where his inspiration for the piece originated. “Dolphins have always been fascinating to me. I've had many encounters with them in the Gulf since I was a kid. I usually see them when I'm out surfing and paddle boarding, and I enjoy painting them.”

Sacznski said that he has used his artwork for school fundraisers in the past, but this piece marks the first work he has donated to the school.
