Even though school is out, the Destin Middle School dance and cheer teams have had a busy summer.

The DMS Dazzlers recently attended a Universal Dance Association camp in Hattiesburg, Miss., held at the University of Southern Mississippi. While there the team won second place overall in the competition and brought home the super sprit stick awarded to the most spirited team at camp.

The team also won the Blue Superior trophy for home routine dance and took home a total of 11 Blue Superior ribbons for other camp routines.

Three members of the team; Elizabeth Wasson, Madison Baker and Emma Grace Jowers, were named All-American.

As for the cheer team, the DMS Cheerleaders attended Universal Cheer Association camp in Orlando, Fla., held at the University of Central Florida.

The team won top honors not only by earning the spirit stick, but also for taking first overall for extreme routine and were named best cheer team overall for the camp. With these high accolades the team won a bid to participate in the Citrus Bowl.

DMS honored team members from the camp included Cassidy Berry, awarded Top Jumper, and Brooke O’Keefe took runner-up. Cassidy Berry, Brooke O’Keefe and Taylor Ford were named All-American, and Madeline Roberts, Kristian Murray, Henley Hallmark and Brayden Rowell were pinned for displaying leadership and a positive influence towards others.
