20 years ago — 1993

Following a request from the Destin City Council, Okaloosa County commissioners passed an ordinance creating a no-wake/idle speed one in Indian Bayou.

Ida Burritt, 85, was selected as Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Quarter for her work with organized groups in Destin, city incorporation, and her involvement with Destin Water User’s Board. She was the editor of The Log when it first hit the stands in 1974.

According to Tina Harbuck’s Fish Flash, rain slowed fishing down to a drizzle as it rained all Labor Day weekend.

Extra fancy cauliflower was 88 cents a head, apples 22 cents a pound and fresh ground beef 97 cents a pound at Food World.

Chief Warrant Officer Timothy S. Monck, the highest ranking U.S. Coast Guard official ever to run the station, takes command of USCG Station Destin during ceremonies.

Surveyors began measuring the 6.5 miles of beach in Destin and South Walton to establish an erosion control line that would form a division between public and private property if the proposed multimillion-dollar beach nourishment project goes forward.

Opening of Jay Odom’s new terminal at Destin Airport is seen by neighboring homeowners as a threat to their health, their property values and their way of life.

A rooster heist at Another Broken Egg at the Village of Baytowne Wharf saw the 4-foot, 150-pound carving disappear in broad daylight.

Carol Ferony of Navarre was the winner of the Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation’s Destin Festival of the Arts poster design competition for 2003.

Crab Island continued to be a source of unlawful behavior as two officers from Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission observed a personal watercraft operating erratically after leaving a no wake zone near the Island. Also, three underage individuals were observed consuming alcoholic beverages and also had a safety violation on the vessel.
