The Friends of the Destin Dog Park group is sponsoring a 5K fun run/walk “with your dogs” on Saturday Nov. 16 called the Wag-n-Walk 5K. All proceeds from this event will be used to install and operate lights at the Destin Dog Park so that the park’s hours can be modified to better meet the needs of all our dog loving residents and visitors.
The lights will improve year-round operations by providing evening access during the winter months when it is dark at 5 p.m. and providing evening access during the summer months when the temperature is too hot to utilize the park during the day.
Here’s how YOU can help:
•Gather your two and four legged friends and sign-up for the race. Participants may bring their dog, big or small, to run or walk the race. Preregistration is $25 if registered through Nov. 15 and $30 on race day. Registration forms can be picked up at the Destin Community Center, Destin City Hall and www.cityodestin.com. Participants can also register online at http://www.active.com/destin-fl/running/races/1st-annual-destin-dog-park-wag-n-walk-and-5k-run-2013 until Nov. 15. Day-of registration will be from 7:30-8:30 a.m. at the Destin City Hall Annex.
•Volunteer your time to help during the race. (contact Nick Coleman at 337-2382 or ncoleman@cityofdestin.com)
•Make a contribution to the Dog Park lighting fund. Contact Nancy Weidenhamer at sos1@sos.gccoxmail.com or myself at ljohnson@cityofdestin.com
•Pass this information on to all your dog loving friends and family.
This event is another prime example of a Destin residents initiated grass roots effort to keep improving our community’s amenities in a fiscally responsible manner. What a great community we live and work in.
