First responders from the Destin Fire Control District and Okaloosa County recently took part in a series of training exercises put on by Medical Outfitter Training Consultants, LLC.

The training, which took place last weekend, was held in Shalimar at the old courthouse. A variety of scenarios and injuries were simulated as part of the exercise. One of the situations simulated a mass shooting with multiple injuries and casualties.

MOTC is an organization whose mission is to "provide superior quality standard and customer-specific medical training programs to local, state and federal government agencies and safety and health training courses for various private corporations, including schools, doctor's offices and hospitals."

Karen Jankowski, HR coordinator for the city of Destin, and her husband, Bob, took part in the training and applied fake blood and staged mock injuries.

Local participants included Destin's T.J Buchanan, fire paramedic; Phil Metz, medical division chief; Mike Snider, fire paramedic; and Kenneth Worly, EMS lieutenant for Okaloosa County's Public Safety EMS Division.
