•The Destin Chamber and Preservation of Destin again went on record opposing the Metropolitan Planning Organization’s announced plans to six-lane U.S. 98 through Destin.
•The Area Promotional Task Force announced a contest among Okaloosa County students to write a slogan promoting the Okaloosa/Walton area.
•More than 200 people attended the dedication of the Old Destin Post Office Museum.
•Christine May was named Poppy Queen by American Legion Post 296.

•A proposal under consideration by the Destin Fire Board would prohibit cooking on charcoal or gas grills in condominium units above the ground floor.
•Meeting in Destin, 160 boat captains from Panama City to Orange Beach, Ala., agreed they must take a united stand against proposed federal regulations limiting the size and number of redfish they could catch.
•Destin’s Paul Schmidt, 7, had a drawing accepted for the Disney Channel.

•Adrienne Sebree was selected this quarter’s Outstanding Senior for her years of service as coordinator of Destin’s quarterly Red Cross blood drives.
•Navigational lights on the Choctawhatchee Mid-Bay Bridge marking the channel in the Intracoastal Waterway were converted from solar to electrical power under direction of the United States Coast Guard.
•Twenty-five Destin children were chosen to attend a National Children’s Day celebration at Disney World. The Walt Disney Co., the Children’s Defense Fund and Delta Air Lines were involved in the program to give 13,000 children from disadvantaged backgrounds a trip to Disneyland or Disney World.
•The Ultimate, a proposed residential condominium on Holiday Isle, would offer 21 luxurious homes with just three on each floor.
•Destiny, a 172-lot planned unit development on old U.S. 98, was approved for recommendation to City Council by the Destin Planning Commission.

•Unseasonably warm temperatures turned the fountain area at Destin Commons into a playground for adults as well as children.
•The South Walton branch of Okaloosa Walton Community College took a step closer to reality with the OWCC trustees’ approval of a contract with DAG Architects Inc. of Destin to develop a master plan for the new campus.
•Don Hambrick of Destin took first place in the Big Healey division and Best of Show at the 13th annual British Car Competition in Fairhope, Ala., with his 1963 Austin Healey MKII.
•Safe Harbor Presbyterian Church opened its doors to the community for a free traditional Thanksgiving dinner for anyone who wanted it.
