Signs of an economic recovery continue in Destin as another development application has been filed in the planning department.
"We are seeing an uptick in the number of people pulling the trigger on developments," Community Development Director Ken Gallander told The Log.
An application for a Tier I development called Prince Commercial/Office was filed Nov. 12 on behalf of B&PP Trust, a Metarie, La., based company. Developers would construct a one story, 32,000-square foot commercial, office and retail complex at 855 98 Palms Blvd.
The 3.29-acre parcel of land is sandwiched between Eglin Federal Credit Union, Destin Water Users and Target. The property was purchased by B&PP Trust in 2012 for $540,000. Richard Prince, arepresentatives from B&PP Trust, did not return a message seeking comment on the proposed project before press time.
The application is currently being reviewed by the city's Technical Review Team, which is comprised of individuals from the Destin Fire Control District, Okaloosa Gas, Destin Water Users, the engineering team from the city's public services department, and members of the community development and planning department. They are tasked with reviewing the application for any "technical standards" their organization requires.
Other recent applications include an expansion at the AOC Food Mart along Main Street; the Destin Oaks subdivision along Airport Road; the harbor front Johnny O'Quigley's Ale House & Marina; and Hog's Breath corporate offices along Mountain Drive. These are all applications for either Tier I projects or smaller scale development.

While most of the development taking place in Destin is of the smaller variety, Gallander told The Log it's a welcomed sight.
"It's definitely not on the level of what we saw in the past with a bunch of condos and such, but it's a good thing," he said.
