Your Destin Log turns 40 on Jan. 5. Here's a look at how we've changed through the years.
1974
The first issue of The Destin Weekly Log was created by Richard and Marie Andrews in January. It was 8-1/2 x 11 booklet printed in their garage and was delivered free to mail boxes on Thursdays.
Jack and Carol Becklund and June Walker became partners with the Andrews in September 1974.
The first photos to appear in The Log were of the Destin Christmas Parade that year.
1975
The Log operations moved to Marler Street and The Log was purchased by the Becklunds from the other partners.
Paid subscriptions were started, and the Destin Weekly Log was renamed The Destin Log.
1976
The Destin Log became a Tabloid newspaper and was selling 1,500 copies a week. The Log published its first Condominium Section.
1977
The Log won the first of many awards through the years from the Florida Press Association’s annual newspaper contest.
1979
The Log became a full size broadsheet newspaper.
1981
The Log began publishing twice a week: Wednesday and Saturday.
1983
E. W. Scripps Company purchased The Destin Log.
1984
The Destin Log moved to a new building on Airport Road.
1985
The first 4-color photo appeared in The Destin Log.
1988
The first issue of Real Estate Log.
2000
The Log was sold to Freedom Communications, Inc.
2007
The Log becomes a daily online at thedestinlog.com
2009
The Log launches a Facebook page, which in a matter of years has grown to more than 11,000 fans.
2010
The Log moves to the fifth story of the old Regions Bank building. In a few short months the building is referred to as The Destin Log building.
2011
The Log and other Freedom Communications newspapers are acquired by Halifax Media Group, based in Daytona Beach.
2013
Log turns 40; looks forward to serving readers for another 40 years!
