It is hard to believe that four years have come and gone.

When I was elected mayor in 2010, we set our sights on a great many projects for the city of Destin. Some far-reaching; some more easily realized. But, one thing is for sure — this small town has accomplished a lot, and I couldn’t be more proud.

As many of you know, the mayor of Destin is bound by charter to present the state of the city every year.

It will come as no shock to you that I am looking forward to bragging on all of the wonderful things the city council, staff, volunteers and city partners have accomplished over the past year. This is one of the most special things I do for Destin.

I get to tell the good news.

We are blessed with an elected body that always keeps the best interest of the city in mind, preserving our rich history and heritage while planning for the future. We are blessed with a professional and dedicated staff that works tirelessly to make Destin an example for all other cities in our area. We are also blessed to have the most involved volunteer base I’ve ever seen. There are so many things we do that would not be possible without volunteerism.

The city has set its sights on some audacious goals, yet nothing stands in the way of progress in Destin for very long because of the determination and vision this great city has.

One example is our movement to permanently stabilize Norriego Point. Through our hard work over the past four years, this will now become a reality!

The list goes on and on, and I will tell all on Feb. 25.

As we move into the future, it is always important to understand where we came from and how we got to where we are today. I encourage each and every one of you to come to our annual state of the city address at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at the City Hall Annex, 4100 Indian Bayou Trail.

To go along with a great presentation, we will also have time for fellowship and refreshments. I hope to see you there.

Sarah “Sam” Seevers is the outgoing Mayor of Destin.
