'Very cooperative' defendant tells all to investigators

A “very cooperative” defendant took Okaloosa County Sheriff’s investigators on a guided tour of Kelly Plantation, showing them the residences from which golf clubs were stolen, according to a report.

The case began with a report from a Niceville man that his golf clubs had been stolen from his garage. He told a deputy the bag contained Calloway and Taylormade golf clubs, a mobile phone and a black leather case. In all, everything was worth $800, the victim estimated.

Investigators checked area pawn shops and discovered 28-year-old Stephen Alan Shaw of Niceville had hocked several sets of golf clubs. Shaw came to speak with investigators and admitted he was involved in a string of golf club thefts, claiming he drove another man to houses in Kelly Plantation in order for him to take the clubs. He also admitted to pawning clubs.

“Defendant Shaw was very cooperate and showed remorse throughout the interview,” a deputy wrote in the arrest report. He rode with investigators to all the residences where clubs were stolen.

The report didn't say if a second suspect was arrested.

He was charged with unarmed burglary and dealing in stolen property. His plea date is March 18.

Report: Roommate threatened with machete

A woman allegedly held a machete to a man’s neck and informed him that nobody would miss him when he was dead, according to an arrest report.

Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputies went to an Airport Road residence to investigate a 911 call. There, they found a man in the garage who told the call taker if the deputies found his body, his “crazy roommate” had killed him.

The man said he lived at the house with the woman, 52-year-old Kimberly Kay Krieger, and the two had argued when he refused to buy her drugs, he said. He said he was in an upstairs bedroom with the door locked when Krieger became angry and broke into the room. She allegedly held a machete to his throat and said, “Your mom and dad are dead, you don’t have anyone, and nobody will miss you when you’re dead.”

The man pushed her away and fled to the garage. He suffered a cut on his neck, a deputy noted.

Two witnesses were reluctant to provide an account of the incident for fear of retaliation from Krieger, but later provided statements that were consistent with the apparent victim. Krieger denied anything physical but admitted she and the man had argued.

Krieger was charged with aggravated battery using a deadly weapon and faces a March 18 court hearing.

Man accused of splitting pregnant woman's lip

A man is accused of punching the expectant mother of his child in the lip, causing it to split and bleed, according to an arrest report.

The incident took place at an apartment complex on Dancing Cloud Court. An Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputy responded to the address after receiving a report that a woman was being sheltered by other residents who witnessed part of an attack.

The woman, who was holding an ice pack to her lip, communicated to the deputy that her boyfriend in the unit across the hall had punched her in the face. The deputy noted the woman’s lip was swollen, lacerated and bleeding. She also had a bruise on her thigh.

The boyfriend, 26-year-old Rogelio Garcia-Caballero of Destin, told the deputy in broken English that he only pushed her and she hit her lip against the door.

A witness said the woman ran into the hallway screaming and claimed Garcia-Caballero had hit her in the face. She was bleeding from the mouth.

The woman was six months pregnant.

Garcia-Caballero was charged with battery offender should have known victim was pregnant and will face a judge on March 18.

‘Highly intoxicated' man bounces back to jail after trespassing at Kangaroo Jack's

A “highly intoxicated” man was arrested after he was spotted by an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputy walking across the property of restaurant he’d been told to stay away from.

A deputy was dispatched to Kangaroo Jack's on Harbor Boulevard to deal with the alleged trespassing. When he got there the deputy saw Daniel Alan Settle, 33, no address listed, just outside the restaurant’s property. He had already been issued a trespass warning for the property, according to an arrest report.

The deputy reminded Settle he’d been told to say off the property, and the deputy noted “he was in a highly intoxicated condition.”

The deputy left, but when he turned around he saw Settle crossing the parking lot of Kangaroo Jack’s and arrested him.

Settle was charged with trespassing and will enter a plea on Feb. 25.
