If you’re going to drive at night with 183 grams of marijuana in the trunk of your car, you should make sure your tail lights work.
On April 28 an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a car on Kelly Street near the intersection of Benning Drive just after midnight because the taillights and tag lights weren’t working.
The deputy, accompanied by his K-9 dog, Kilo, conducted a walk-around of the car. The dog alerted to the presence of drugs.
As the deputy was patting down the driver, 21-year-old Corey Allen McPherson of Destin, he found a marijuana pipe in McPherson’s pocket. He also found a plastic bag containing less than a gram of marijuana.
When he searched the car the deputy found more marijuana — less than a gram — on the rear floorboard in a plastic container. In the trunk he found a vacuum-sealed bag containing 183 grams of marijuana.
After he was arrested, McPherson said he had just bought the marijuana for $2,000 and planned to sell it for $3,000 to supplement his income.
He was charged with possession with intent to distribute, a felony. His court date is June 11.
Destin man arrested after allegedly pointing shotgun at roommates
A 44-year-old Destin man was arrested Monday after he allegedly pointed a black shotgun at his roommates in their Indian Trail apartment, according to an arrest report from the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.
While pointing the gun at his roommates, Alfred George Price "screamed that he was going to kill them," the report states, which caused the victims "to fear for their lives."
According to the report, Price was screaming loudly and throwing furniture around the apartment. When one of the occupants went to see what was happening, Price allegedly threw a shotgun shell at the woman's feet and yelled "you think I wont use this" and "get the hell out; your evicted," while pointing the gun at her and the other occupant.
At one point during the disturbance, a witness, who was also in the apartment, said he overheard Price saying "I'm going to kill everyone."
The witness and the victims stomped on the floors while yelling to alert neighbors, before they "fled for their lives." Noticing the commotion, neighbors called the sheriff's office.
Still under a domestic violence injunction, Price was ordered to "not use or possess a firearm or ammunition." Ammunition was found in both a Mossberg 500 12-Guage Shotgun and a Glock 22 .40-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun, but there were no bullets in either chamber, according to the report.
Price was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. Price is scheduled to appear in court July 9.
