A good-hearted citizen and the Coast Guard rescued three people from a capsized boat near East Pass offshore Destin on Tuesday.
According to a press release, Station Destin Coast Guard received a call at 12:55 p.m. that a 22-foot vessel had capsized with three people aboard and quickly launched a response boat. Within ten minutes the Coast Guard arrived to aid in the rescue of one distressed mariner, as the kind citizen had already recovered the other two.
All three mariners were transported back to the station were the Emergency Medical Services took them to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. One was treated for symptoms of shock.
Lt. j.g. Bradley Parker, of Coast Guard Sector Mobile stated in the press release that, "Because these mariners had their required safety gear and were wearing their life jackets, we were able to provide timely assistance and avoid a worse outcome."
