What do you get when you cross ballet, pilates and yoga? The answer is a new exercise method called Pure Barre.
“Pure Barre uses small isometric movements set to current music,” said Pure Barre Franchise owner Ashley Singleton. “It’s a no impact exercise that’s good for any age and its fun — fun music in a comfortable setting.”
Singleton, who doubles as a class instructor, began her session leading 12 women in a series of stretches and breathing techniques. The stretches were followed by an hour of focused muscle-strengthening techniques often using the ballet bar, a small rubber weight ball, and an elastic stretch band to enhance the exercise.
“It works the thighs, abs, seat and arms. It’s all weight-bearing work,” said Singleton of the Pure Barre program. “You’re not going to put on bulky muscle, it’s all lengthening work.”
Singleton shared that her flagship location on 30A has thrived incredibly since opening in 2010, and this year, she felt ready to bring the studio to Destin.
“Destin’s a very fit community, a beach community, and there is nothing like this here,” she said.
The bright new studio, located at 34940 Emerald Coast Pkwy suite 186, opened its doors June 12, and is currently accepting new memberships. Pure Barre classes are also available per class for vacationing visitors.
