When a shark comes in on the docks in Destin, it’s always quite the crowd gatherer. Just like at the docks, when a picture of a shark is shared on The Log’s Facebook page, people gather and share their thoughts. Here’s what some of our Facebook friends had to say about a recent catch.
Genny Cox: It should be illegal to kill sharks! We need them to help Destin thin out our overpopulation of tourists and Yankees! #toomanytouristsindestin
Nancy Vaughn: They need to leave them all alone that's their space!! As for you Genny! What a horrible thing ta say! You do realize that tourist such as myself bring tons of cash to Destin don't ya? Geez some people are just soo rude and disrespectful!
Doug Rogers: As long as the meat is consumed no problem. People who kill sharks just for the "tourist jaws", suck.
Linda Adkins Cooper: Please leave the Sharks alone.
Cynthia Sue Brown:Wow!! As long as they obey the law let them fish and keep the population down so it’s safe for people. For those of you who put animals above people you need to wake up before you are shark food.
Kevin McPherson: Beautiful creatures. I’m scared of them every time I get in the water but still don’t think we should kill them. It’s their water. Risk we take when getting in. Poor things
Kathleen Eckman: This has stirred up quite a controversy! Sharks seem to be close to shore this year... News today showed one near Jersey shore... a 15 footer.. Orange beach a few weeks ago...
Justin Morris: I hope all y'all folks who say you don't agree with killing sharks don't kill fish either...if it swims it dies.
Michael Hutchison: They are beautiful until they eat you or your children. Which when that happens, people are hesitant to come spend their vacation at the beach, meaning less money, businesses closing, which in turn means more people living off the government, costing me more money each pay check! The shark problem is just like the current hog problem. Neither animal has any natural predators, other than humans. It is our job to thin them out to keep the population where it is meant to be. More sharks, less fish like snapper and grouper, the entire ecosystem is then out of balance. Think logically people.
Michelle Morey Schmidt: Makes me sick seeing this and the idiots who think this is okay.
Sarah Herbst Drahn: Senseless killings!!!!!!!!
Zack Patronis:I wonder if the people saying this is "senseless killings" realize that you can eat shark?
Jessica Perrotto: Hold up. I don't see these comments going on in pictures when fish are being brought in. You mean to tell me these sharks lives and their meat is more sacred than another fish in that water. I know y'all ALL would be acting completely different if one of these bit you or your child's leg off.
Lindley Staples Ward: I hope all you people who keep saying how sad this is are vegetarians.
