It may have been chilly Saturday, but there was plenty of chili to help folks warm up during the 10th annual Parrot Head Chili Cook-Off at HarborWalk Village.
“It’s always a great event,” said John Koser, president of the local Parrot Head group. “What’s really great is that we get the participation that we do; the chili was incredible.”
Whether you like spicy chili, meaty chili, sweet chili, or chili without beans, there was definitely something for everyone. There were even plenty of awards and smiles to go around as the Parrot Heads grossed $8,000 from the event, which will be used to support Emerald Coast Relay for Life and Horizons: Emerald Coast Affiliate of The Arc.

The Emerald Coast Parrot Head Club was established to promote social and civic activities for people with similar interests, centered around the tropical spirit of Jimmy Buffett’s music, according to the group’s website.
The non-profit corporation raises about $15,000 for various charities every year, Koser told The Log.
“Our motto is party with a purpose,” he said.
More than 20 local restaurants and chili experts participated. And talk about variety, the recipes ranged from smoked duck and white beans to a batch cooked up with hotdogs.

“We couldn’t have done this without the help of HarborWalk Village and Dan Empson from Harry T’s,” Koser told The Log. “Not to mention the countless number of volunteers who helped.”
